Increasingly Im seeing that there are more and more regulars playing the 3-6nl HU games on FT. This means practicing game selection is getting tougher because you have to balance the urge to play vs not playing for 20-30 min to get a slightly easier game. This guy J_T_S80 sat at my table and was playing two 3-6 HU games and the 60K gaurentee and I thought why not give it a shot. I have been playing some of the best poker of my life recently and wanted to see how it stacked up against a “regular” So he starts off by winning 120 or so when he raised the flop of 4 5 7 two clubs and i had 10 7. I called and turn comes and ace and he fired 150 into a 170 dollar pot. It just didn’t have a good feel to it and I laid it down. I was able to work myself back even by showing some agression and bluffing at some middle sized pots. Then the big hand came up. I had AA and raised to 18 and he called. Flop is 3 5 8 and he checks i bet 27 he calls. Turn is a 3 pairing the board, he checks I bet 67 and he makes it 170 i think for a while fully going to call but wanted to make it look as if i was weak. I put him on a club draw as there were two out there or something like top pair weak kicker. The River blanked as it was no club and it was a 4 and he leads out for 350 really quick..i basically instacalled and he showed 5 7
. He only had 120 left and the next hand we get it all in on flop he had set and I had nut flush draw and was able to draw out on him. He got up and left after this hand and it was very satisfieing to be able to take down a regular and feel good about my game.
I then went on to play this other guy who i forget his name but I made one crucial mistake which cost me but it’s good to relive the hand and learn from the mistakes. I was up a little on him but he was frusterating me as he was three betting to 54 about one in three hands and I had good hands like AJ, KQ etc and would call and always miss. So then i have 4 4 and he three bets again and i make it 162 taking a stand..he instashoves, and I made crying call for 340 more getting about 3:1 on my call i felt i had no choice since AK def in his range but of course he has 7 7 for the donkish shove that actually worked against my more donkish call. This hand really illustrates that if your the better player don’t try and play big pots pre against the weaker opponent…wait him out and eventually you’ll break him. After that I won 400 back off him and he quit me. That was it for me for the night as it was a nice quick little profit again.
